In Communist China, media rides you.

I don’t want to automatically assume that because it’s the Chinese government, there must be some sort of conspiracy or cover up – however, this has raised an eyebrow:

More than 1,000 ethnic Uighur protesters have clashed with Chinese police in Xinjiang’s regional capital, Urumqi.

Chinese television has shown protestors turning over a police car and Han Chinese passers-by covered in blood after reportedly being attacked by the crowd.

O.K, so if we avoid saying that anything was faked or misrepresented, it is still surprising that only Han Chinese are shown covered in blood, yet no protesters.

Of course, the same sort of thing would happen in Australia, if the media outlets here wanted to stir an outrage. They would show only representatives of the majority of the viewers being mistreated or maligned. It’s not uncommon in any country.

Still, the selective reporting does pique an interest, and it will be interesting to see how this pans out – edited or otherwise.
