Not the man I know

Another post about domestic violence, this time I’m just going to link to an article from The Curvature, titled ‘Not the Man I Know’, discussing how easily people dismiss revelations of intimate partner violence, because the image of a violent perpetrator does not fit their image of the friend/neighbour/work colleague/sibling, and would prefer to pretend it never did.

The reason I link to it is because it’s why so many people suffering intimate partner violence never speak out – because it’s not that nobody believes them, nobody wants to believe them. They’re fucked from the start. It leads the way for a whole-lotta victim blaming as well, which just perpetuates the abuse.
